What is the Baptist Doctrine, and do you follow it?
Yes, we are followers of what is termed,” The Baptist Doctrine”. We believe in following the word of God as shown below. Baptist church’s believe in self governance and independent of each other. However, the commonality of Baptist Churches beliefs is listed herein and supported by biblical passages:
1. About God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He is infinite in glory, wisdom, holiness, righteousness, justice, power, and love. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1, Deut 6:4; 26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; I Peter 1:2; II Corinthians 13:14
2. About Mankind
We were originally created in the image and after the likeness of God, and that we fell through sin, as a consequence of sin, lost our spiritual life, becoming dead in trespasses and sins, and subject to the power of the devil. We also believe that this spiritual death, or total depravity of human nature, has been transmitted to the entire human race of man, the Man Christ Jesus alone being excepted; and hence that every child of Adam is born into the world with a nature which not only possesses no spark of divine life, but is essentially and unchangeably bad apart from divine grace..
Genesis 1:27; 6:5; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1,2, Jeremiah 17:9; John 3:6; 6:35
3. About Eternity
We all were created to exist forever. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men. The saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. The place of eternal separation from God is called hell. Heaven is the place of eternal union and eternal life with God.
John 3:16; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15 (Hell); Matthew 25:41; Revelation 21:27 (Heaven)
4. About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; John 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; I Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13
5. About Salvation
Salvation is a gift from God to mankind. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can we be saved from sin’s penalty. We believe that Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried and that he rose again according to the scriptures. This is the Gospel
message, and the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. We are saved by the blood of Jesus. Eternal life begins the moment we receive Jesus Christ into our life by faith as our personal Lord and Savior.
Romans 6:23; Ephesians, 2:8,9; John 3:16; 14:6; John 1:12; Titus 3;5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 1:18; 5:1; 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 15:1-6
6. About Eternal Security
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in the salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.
John 10:29; II Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10,14; I Peter 1:3-5; I John 5:11-13
7. About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make mankind aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of Salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.
II Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; John 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 2:12; I Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:1
8. About the Bible
The Bible is God’s word to mankind. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the final authority and only source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error. We believe that all scripture center around the Lord Jesus Christ in His person and work in His first and second coming.
II Timothy 3;16; II Peter 1:20,21; II Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160; 12:6, Revelation 22:12
9. About the Church
The Church is composed of all believers who by the Holy Spirit have been baptized into the body of Christ since Pentecost. The local Church is a body of immersed believers covenanted together for the work of the Church, in order to provoke one another to love and good works. Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the only two sacraments of the church as given by Jesus Christ. These two sacraments are to be participated in by believers.
Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:41; I Cor 12:12-13; Matthew 28:19; I Cor 11:26
10. About Sanctification
Sanctification is twofold, positional and practical. First positional, since the believer is in Christ, he is a partaker of Christ’s sanctification. Secondly, practical, the believer is responsible for his practical sanctification (daily walk), he is to “grow in grace” and become like Christ.
Romans 5:1-5; II Cor 3:18; Eph 4:24;5:5-27
11.The Ministry and Spiritual Gifts
God has sovereignly bestowed Spiritual Gifts on all believers and that these gifts make room for the believer. That these gifts are to be used for the benefit,
exhort and edification of the body of Christ. We further believe that the gifts of tongues are for the individual and or not to be used in the assembly unless they are interpreted.
I Cor 13:4-11; I Cor 14:27-33; Rom 12:3-8; Eph 4:7-12;
Do you have a Bus or Transportation Ministry?
Yes, we have a beautiful bus ministry that currently is underutilized. Most members have transportation to and from worship. However, we are ready to use this service when the need appears.
What about the Senior Adults?
We encourage our Senior Adults (J.O.Y Just older Youth) to participate in any service of our church family that they are physical able to get involved in. We encourage our Seniors to participate in all phases of our worship service. Our church family works constantly to embrace our JOY group. Even when physical limitation is involved, we usually find a way to make it happen. We believe that it is important for our JOY group to know that age is not a barrier to worshiping the Lord.
